Next Essay Due Nov 9th...

Essay due Nov 9th. Please remember to create your vomit, then develop your outline -BEFORE you design your composition. As always, this should be typed, single-spaced, size 12 & TNR. Please place the parts of the house in your composition. Bring highlighters.

Many teachers believe that an organzied student finds it easier to be successful. Do you agree or disagree?

Many students have personal goals, such as making the honor roll, playing a musical instrument or being a top scorer in a video game. To be successful in reaching goals, it helps to have certain qualities. Some of these might include self-discipline, determination, or a positive attitude.
Think about a goal that you would like to achieve. In a well-developed composition, state your goal. Describe at least two qualities you will need to reach your goal, and explain why each quality is important to be successful.

Due Oct 21st

First, remember to bring your essay to class on Monday (A Wealthy Donor...). Also, you should bring two highlighters, pen and pencil. Do not forget your vomit or outline.

Finally, here is your next essay assignment - (Expository/Informative) you may choose one:

1. ) Write an essay explaining how you changed when you entered middle school.
                                                 OR
2.) The amount of graffiti has greatly increased at your school. The members of the school board must fnid ways to stop the graffiti. Write a composition in which you fully explain the solution the school board could use to solve this problem.

VOMIT, TOPIC OUTLINE & ESSAY DUE FRIDAY.
A wealthy donor plans to build a new facility that will benefit young people in your area. It could be a swimming pool, a theater, a skateboard park, an art school, or any other facility that would provide young people with constructive ways to spend their time. The donor is not sure what kind of facility would be most useful. Write a letter to the donor in which you identify the type of facility you to have built, and persuade her that it is the best choice. Be sure to support your opinion with convincing reasons and evidence.
BE SURE to include: thesis, topic sentences, supporting details, specific examples, transitions, an introduction technique, a conclusion technique and remember to GO BIG!

Also, complete package with possessive nous and pronouns for WEDS.

Students should complete their reponses to the five comprehension questions regarding Ch 6 in ROT.
Also, they need to complete the activity "Sequencing" for ROT Ch 1-6.

Students will have a vocabulary quiz on the following word list: -ance, -ence, -ian, and -or tomorrow.
Also, we will have a ROT quiz on ch 4-6. There will be 10 mult-choice questions, some vocabulary questions and 3 short answer questions. All will relate to ch 4-6.

We began a "Word Attack" study this week. Students need to write three synonyms and 3 antonyms for each word they obtained today (Prefix Mono & Poly) In addition, students need to write ONE sentence fore EACH word. This is due Thursday.

In addition, students need to Read the student repsonses for "Yoga & You." Students should create a key and locate the following components in each repsonse:
Circle transistions
Use green highlighter and highlight each CLAIM
Use red highlighter and highlight each piece of EVIDENCE
Place the topic Statements in <brackets>

Due Tues Feb 1st & Long Range - Feb 7th...

Students should complete Lower Level Practice Test I Q 1-60 for Homeplay. This should be completed before class on Tuesday, Feb 1. We will review responses on Tuesday. This is the begining of our word study.

Studetnts have a 5 paragraph essay due Monday, Feb 7th. They should vomit, create an outline and write their 5 paragraph essay. SPECIFIC EXAMPLES are required for this assignment. You may choose to write about choice A, B or C:

A). Students in MA are being taught to recycle, renew, and reuse. In a well-developed composition, explain what students your age can do to benefit the environment by recycycling, renewing, and resuing materials.

B.) Each student in your school has decided to volunteer forty hours of time to improve the community. In a well-developed composition, explain what work you would do, and tell how this work would make a difference in your community.

C.) We see violence on television and hear about it in songs. Many people seem to be concerned about violence.  In a well-developed composition, give any suggestions you may have to stop violence, and tell why you think they may work.

Students should read and margin note - "Single Sex Schools Can Improve Education". They should then TYPE a summary and submit this summary on Tuesday.

Next, Studnets were assinged the following: Many people develop skills outside of school. For example, some people may draw or paint, others may work on web pages. Think of a skill that you would like to learn or that you have learned outside of school. In a well-developed composition, describe the skill and explain why it is interesting and important to you.  (This should include your vomit, a topic outline, and your 5 paragraph essay. THIS SHOULD BE TYPED). Remember to refer to your binder and use the following sheets - intro techniques, conclusion techniques, transitions, THESIS and location, topic sent, supporting details, specific examples. This will be scored according to the TODL/S and MUGS scoring guide.

THIS IS DUE FRIDAY, JAN 21ST.

Remember to read at least 20 minutes per night and begin to record your minutes. We wil be doing this until Feb Break. The purpose is to increase you stamina and concentration. More importantly, I hope you develop a love of reading.

Please finsih reading the excerpt from "Treasure Island" and complete both the MC and the open response. Remember to provide four pieces of evidence from the play to support your response. This response should be typed with a proper heading and brought to class on Tuesday. Please bring two highlighters to class.

Also, read the article "Ipswich"  - about 'Russell Orchards and Ipswich Public Schools. TYPE a summary of this article and bring to class on Tuesday. Remember to inlcude: who, what, where, when, why and sometimes how in your summary.

Summarizing a Science Article - Please read, margin note and TYPE a summary of  "A New Era of Planetary Exploration." This is due Friday, January 7th. (who, what , where, when, & why)

On Weds direct instruction will begin writing with textual evidence. We will learn how to incorporate textual analysis in our writing and support/strengthen a position. Be prepared to "fiinish/type" your responses for homeplay this week.

We will assign a five paragraph essay on Weds or Thursday.
