Upcoming Due dates

For Weds, Oct 20th please bring your grammar packets; we wil review these in class on Weds. In addition, tonight students should review their Introduction techniques, conclusion techniques and transitions.
ASSIGNED: Vomit, Outline and Essay due Tuesday, Oct 26th. This essay is a "choice" essay. However, students must decide prior to writing it - is it an expository piece or is it a persuasive piece. Students should write at the top of the essay: EXPOSITORY or PERSUASIVE.

Thursday October, 21st we will have a QUIZ. This quiz will assess your abilities as they relate to introduction techniques, conclusion techniques and the use of transitions.

Friday - Students should bring their IRB and logs. We will answer the question - as a reader what have I noticed about myself?

Monday, the 25th we will have a 10 question multiple-choice quiz on grammar: simple subjects, simple predicates and types of sentences.

Due October 15th

Students should bring their IRB, binder and their reading logs.

 Remember, there is an essay due Tuesday, Oct 19th. Students should have completed their vomit and sentence (or topic) outline by now. Please apply classroom instruction: introduction techniques, thesis location, transistions, topic sentences, supporting details and SPECIFIC EXAMPLES. This week each essay should also include the use of a conclusion technique. Finally, students should continue to READ, READ and READ some more.

Homework Due 13th

Students were provided instruction: 3 conclusion techniques. They should apply one of these techniques in their next essay, "School Uniforms." This will be due October 18th. Students are required to write five introduction paragraphs for the topic, "School Uniforms." Each paragraph should demonstrate the use of each technique. One pargraph will demonstrate the use of a quote. One paragraph will demonstrate the use of an analogy. One paragraph will demonstate the use an anecdote, a startling or interesing fact and pose a question to the reader. This is due Thursday, October 14th. Students should continue to read independently and record their minutes.

October 8th, 2010

Students should bring their independent reading book to class. They should also bring their binders and their reading logs. As always, students should have a pen, pencil and two different colored highlighters.
