Due December 1st, 2010

Students have the following due tomorrow, Weds, December 10th:

A. Read & margin note - Holiday Rescue for Rare Turtles. Next, type a summary of this article. Remember, writing a summary requires minimizing insignificant details. Adjectives that are not esssential can be omitted. Finally, each summary should try to address the 5 W's (Who, What, When, Where, Why and sometimes How).

B. Read & margin note Recycling With Nature. Next type a summary of this article.

Make two entries/responses in your Reflection Journal. You should respond to the following:

1. List two or more qualities that you look for in a friend. Why are these qualities important to you?
2. Describe how and why a person shows loyalty to their friends, family and/or school.

Please refer to the scoring guide. This will help you develop your response writing.

If you were given the oppurtunity to write about any topic or idea or interest,  you would like to write about, what would you write about? Please type a list of  10 "topics" or "ideas" you would write about. This is due Monday the 22nd or November.

Due Dates...

There is no written homeplay this week. Students will be traveling to Boston and Salem this week. Thursday we will provide instruction regarding the rule SHOW ME, DON'T TELL ME. Remember to read, read and read some more. Please bring your binder and notebook to class on Thursday.

Due Dates...

There will be NO essay due this week. Students will take a brief hiatus from writing the expository or persuasive piece. However, this week we will introduce summaries. Students will be taught how to remove details and answer the five W's. This will contradict the original instruction: details, examples, details and more examples...

Due Tuesday, Nov 9th - Students should have their Ch 2 packet "The Noun" completed for review in class.
Due Friday, Nov12th - Students will have a Quiz: Parts of The Sentence.

Remember to READ, READ and READ some more.

Upcoming Due Dates

Weds - Writing Development Test. Students will be provided an essay. They will be asked to identfy "the parts of the house." The test will be 10 - 12 questions. Students will be asked to write a response to each question.
Monday, Nov 8th - Essay due (remember to create vomit and develop a topic or sentence outline).
Choose one of the following:
From kitchen appliances, to computers, to entertainment, to communication -technological innovations have ffected everyone. In a well-developed composition, identify one advancement in technology that you could not do without and explain why. OR
You just won a contest in which you get to spend a day with a famous person. In a well-developed composition, write about what you did and what you learned through the day.
Reading for meaning - margin note the article and write 5 questions about the article. Submit Thurs, Nov 4.
The Noun handout due Weds pg 9 and 10. Complete Ch 2 Text exercises 3,4, & 5 in class by weds.
